Bring Back Visiting Buses and Pass Proximity for All Incarcerated Parents Legislation

January 23, 2019

t’s time to #SpeakYaTruth and take action to increase children’s access to their incarcerated parents. This Wednesday, January 23 - TODAY - we ask that you call and tweet Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins and Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie to let them know we want funding for the visiting buses included in the State Budget.  Please spread the word on social media and encourage your networks to join this day of action.

Here’s a Sample Tweet: @CarlHeastie and @AndreaSCousins please include funding to #BringBackVisitBuses in the State budget. Visiting supports rehabilitation, reentry, &well-being. The buses made visiting possible for thousands- we need them back!

We are encouraged and invigorated by the possibilities that the New Year brings now that we have new leadership in the New York State Legislature who are more open to progressive reforms. This could be the year that we Bring Back Visiting Buses and pass Proximity for All Incarcerated Parents. We thank Assembly Member Carmen De La Rosa and Senator Montgomery (S731) for sponsoring the Visiting Bus bill again this legislative session. In addition to passing the bills, we need funding for the buses. Since budget talks our underway in Albany, we thank you for telling Leader Stewart Cousins and Assembly Speak Heastie know that we want funding in the State Budget for the buses.

Let’s bring back this critical lifeline that makes it possible for the thousands of children and families to visit their loved ones incarcerated in a New York State prison!

Thank you for your support of the New York Initiative and your ongoing commitment to children and families! #SpeakYaTruth🗣💯
